Cromwell Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Location: Cromwell, NZ Time: July 2025 – ongoing Job #16245 Background: Taurus Engineering has been engaged by APEX to support the upgrade of the Cromwell Water Treatment Plant, a key facility providing essential services to the region. The project involves integrating two existing borewells with a newly constructed water treatment building, modernising the plant’s infrastructure to improve efficiency, reliability, and long-term performance. The existing water treatment plant required significant upgrades to meet increasing demand and maintain compliance with current standards. A critical part of this work involved replacing and upgrading the pipework, which plays a vital role in water distribution and treatment processes. Scope of work: Taurus Engineering was responsible for the majority of the stainless-steel pipework fabrication and the installation of pipework in the water treatment plant. This included: Workshop fabrication and welding of all stainless-steel pipework in accordance with approved shop drawings. Weld inspection, pickling and passivation to ensure compliance with ASME IX standards and long-term durability. Protection and delivery to site, followed by site fabrication and welding in the water treatment plant. Installation, commissioning, and testing to integrate the new pipework seamlessly into the plant. Throughout the project, Taurus worked closely with APEX to ensure all QA documentation, inspection requirements, and reporting standards were met. The next stage is already underway, with most of the main stainless-steel pipework scheduled for shipping at the start of October 2025 and on-site installation set to be completed by April 2026.
