Taurus Engineering is a leading provider of tailored engineering solutions for water infrastructure, petrochemical equipment, and structural steel. With over 30 years of industry experience, our team of fully qualified and certified welders are committed to delivering high-quality solutions that meet the unique needs of each of our clients.
Since our establishment in August 2010 with just 5 employees, we have become an integral part of the Christchurch earthquake recovery and rebuild process. Through our partnership with award-winning companies, we have strengthened and enhanced the resilience of some of the city’s most iconic buildings.
Over the past 5 years, we have expanded our services to include infrastructure projects, 3 waters infrastructure, and petrochemical equipment. Our commitment to providing innovative solutions that meet the unique needs of each of our clients has allowed us to establish ourselves as a trusted partner in the engineering industry.
Formed in 1990, the well-known Christchurch company Taunton Engineering underwent a transition in August 2010, when a portion of its business was acquired by the current owner. At the beginning of 2018 we rebranded as Taurus Engineering.
Taunton had some core products, for example: the Taunton Pedestrian Roller.
Shortly after purchasing Taunton, the 2010/11 earthquakes struck Christchurch, and amongst the devastation opportunities arose to become involved in the Christchurch earthquake recovery process and rebuild.
As demand for our services grew rapidly, we quickly outgrew our original 256 sqm workshop located in Taurus Place, prompting us to move to a larger facility of 1440 sqm at 4/200 Maces Road, where we continue to operate to this day.
Our business has been proud to be involved in the strengthening of several iconic buildings, such as the Christchurch Art Centre, Christchurch Parkside Hospital, Barrington Mall, Countdown buildings, and The Palms mall. In addition, we have also contributed to the construction of new buildings, including the Christchurch Hospital acute wing, now known as Waipapa, and the Christchurch convention centre, Te Pae.
In addition, over the past five years, we have expanded our capabilities to include infrastructure projects, with a focus on 3 waters infrastructure and petrochemical-related work.”
In 2022, Taymac Stainless merged with Taurus Engineering to form Taurus Stainless, a specialized division in stainless steel fabrication. Taymac had expertise in fabricating stainless pipework and bespoke industrial equipment to food grade standards, making them a valuable addition to Taurus. This merger enables us to provide an expanded and integrated service to our customers.
Today, Taurus occupies two adjoining workshops totaling 2,880 sqm, with Taurus Stainless located at 5/200 Maces Road and Taurus Engineering at 4/200 Maces Road. Our team has grown significantly and now includes 60 staff and preferred contractors based in Christchurch.
